Summary Abstract: Introduction: Intraoperative troubles will be reduced by detection of potential incidents, and by the prediction
and prevention of hazardous situation. Those incidents and situations can be found in daily surgical operation, which
are automatically extracted from recorded audio-visual information using importance evaluation function. Especially
for the speech information, recognition of the speaker will enhance the recognition of the atmosphere of the operating
room. Heart beat rate will also indicate the intensity of concentration. Method: We implemented a prototype system to
record speech voice and heart sound of individual medical staff using chest piece of stethoscope, miniaturized microphone,
and transceiver. Wireless communication to recording system does not disturb the surgical operation, compared with
wired connection. Results: Laboratory feasibility evaluation was conducted. Though conversation and heart sound
were respectively recorded clearly, speech voice drowned out the heart sound. Rustle of clothing generated a lot of
noise. Spectrogram of recorded sound showed that each sound of voice, heart, and rustle had different characteristics.
Conclusion: Audio recording system using transceiver recorded speech voice and heart sound. Signal processing using
software can separate voice and heart sound, and eliminate rustle of clothing.
