Summary | Abstract:When resecting a brain tumor, the surgeon needs to exactly grasp the brain structure surrounding the tumor,
which differs from patient to patient. To improve the information available of this area, an estimate of the brain structure is made from pre‒ and intra‒operative images and live visual information of the limited operating field. In this study we propose a method to integrate pre‒ and intra‒operative image information and microscope images to enable the surgeon to intuitively grasp the brain structure and tumor position. In this method we start by extracting measurements of each anatomical feature from pre‒ and intra‒operative MRI and microscope images: from pre‒operative MRI we extract blood vessel information and integrate it into the intra‒operative MRI; from intra‒operative MRI we extract brain sulcus and tumor information; from microscope images we extract blood vessel and brain sulcus information. Once extraction is complete, we superimposed display the information of blood vessels, brain sulcus, and tumor onto microscope images. The proposed method has an integration error of blood vessels and brain sulcus information of 2.3±1.2 mm. In the future, we aim to automate the extraction of feature measurements from MRI and microscope images and improve the integration accuracy. Key words:MRI, Microscope images, superimposed display |
