Summary Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is widely applied in ophthalmology for the non-invasive nature. Its widespread application has
motivated the development of intraoperative OCT for real-time
tomographic visualization of surgical intervention. However, the large
speckle noise and low contrast affect the doctors viewing and the
segmentation of retinal layers, which are critical for disease diagnosis.
Image enhancement, as preprocessing of disease diagnosis is very
important. The presented image enhancement algorithms, like the
well-known BM4D, cost too much computational time, thus they
cannot be adopted in real-time image enhancement during such
intraoperative diagnosis or surgery. Therefore, we present a new fast
OCT image enhancement algorithm.
