概要 | Herat tissue is composed of not only cardiomyocytes, but also vascular cells and fibroblasts. Although fibroblasts are existed in various types of tissue, the understating of the specific function and their underlying mechanisms of heart tissue-derived fibroblasts is fully insufficient, which might lead to miss out of chance to develop the new therapeutic strategies targeting fibroblasts in the pathological conditions. Accompanied with the heart tissue in vivo, the existence of fibroblasts is indispensable for the fabrication of functional bioengineered cardiac tissue. Recently we have found that fibroblasts isolated from heart tissues, but not dermal tissues, induce the proliferation of embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes, while fail to promote the endothelial cell microvascular network formation in 2D and 3D bioengineered cardiac tissue. These findings indicate that cardiac fibroblasts might have the properties to support the growth of heart tissue as interstitial cells in nature, while might not be ready to induce the angiogenesis in nature. In this session, I am going to show our recent findings on cardiac fibroblasts from the point of view of cardiac tissue engineering. |
